NLG provides one-to-one online GCSE resit tutoring for Maths and English, focused on prior results, current gaps, past-paper practice and exam technique. For summer retakes in other supported GCSE subjects, one-to-one support is subject to tutor availability and the learner's exam board and specification.
In England, many students on 16 to 19 study programmes who do not hold grade 4 or above in GCSE Maths and/or English must continue studying an approved qualification in the relevant subject. This does not mean every student must immediately resit the GCSE; the correct route depends on the student's prior grade, programme and circumstances.
Current 2026 to 2027 guidance says full-time students with grade 3 must study towards GCSE Maths and/or English, while students with grade 2 or below may be able to study towards GCSE or another approved route such as Functional Skills Level 2. Entry requirements for individual colleges, apprenticeships, universities and employers vary.
📌 Check your school, college or exam centre and the relevant awarding body for confirmed dates and entry arrangements. National Careers Service resit guidance and JCQ timetables provide official reference points.
Resit students often already have experience of the specification and exam format. NLG resit tutoring therefore begins by identifying current gaps, reviewing previous results or marked work where available, and prioritising the areas that need the most attention before the next sitting.
One-to-one resit tutoring is available for GCSE Maths and English, with support for other NLG-supported GCSE subjects for summer retakes subject to tutor availability. Group tutoring is available only for eligible GCSE Maths and GCSE English programmes and is subject to current availability, sufficient enrolment and suitable group placement.

Resit tutoring is more targeted and faster-paced. Students resitting already have foundation knowledge. Sessions focus on diagnosing exactly why marks were lost in the original sitting, past paper technique and rebuilding confidence for the resit exam.
