What We Do

What is the NLG Schools Programme?

The NLG Schools Programme is a structured online tutoring service for primary and secondary schools across the UK. It delivers 1:1 and small group tuition in Maths and English, taught by fully qualified and DBS checked tutors, helping schools close attainment gaps and support disadvantaged pupils.

Research by the Education Endowment Foundation shows that pupils who receive small group tuition make, on average, four months additional progress. Pupils who receive 1:1 tuition make, on average, five months additional progress. Our outcomes consistently reflect this evidence.

👥

1:1 Tutoring

Each pupil works directly with a specialist tutor in a focused 40-minute session. Ideal for pupils who need intensive support or have additional learning needs.

📚

Small Group Tuition

Groups of up to 8 pupils work together in structured 60-minute online sessions. Available for 11+ preparation and GCSE Maths and English. From £20 per week or save with upfront lesson blocks.

📄

Bespoke Reporting

Funding

Using Pupil Premium for Tutoring

Schools can use Pupil Premium funding to pay for NLG tutoring. All state-funded schools with pupils eligible for free school meals, or who have been eligible in the past six years, can allocate this funding towards 1:1 and small group tutoring from KS1 to KS4.

The Department for Education confirms schools have discretion over which pupils receive this support. Tutoring is one of the most evidence-backed uses of Pupil Premium available, with measurable impact on attainment.

Important reminder for schools
Pupil Premium funding that is not spent before the end of the academic year cannot be rolled over. Schools that do not allocate their full budget to eligible provision will lose that funding. If you have unspent budget, tutoring is one of the most effective uses available.

Which schools are eligible?

All state-funded schools in England with pupils in Years 1 to 11 eligible for Pupil Premium, including:

  • Local authority maintained primary and secondary schools
  • Academies and free schools
  • Local authority maintained special schools
  • Special academies and free schools
  • Non-maintained special schools (LA funded placements)
  • Pupil referral units
  • Alternative provision academies and free schools
  • Hospital schools
